About Susukino

Susukino is Hokkaido's largest entertainment district, with over 3,500 establishments currently in operation, each venue offering its own unique charm. In order to allow both locals and visitors from abroad to fully enjoy Susukino safely and securely, the Sapporo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with the Susukino Tourist Association, have organized a night tour of Susukino.

Although the name "Susukino" is used for subway and streetcar station names, it is not an official place name. The area it refers to is somewhat ambiguous, generally encompassing the area from South 3rd to South 8th Street and from West 1st to West 6th Avenue in Chuo Ward. In recent years many hotels have been built in Susukino and large commercial facilities have opened, leading to a trend where visitors choose to stay in Susukino and enjoy food and drinks until late at night. Although the area has long been perceived as a sanctuary for salarymen and older gentlemen, in recent years, the number of young men and women has increased, and the atmosphere and image of the town are changing.

Major events are held in both summer and winter. The "Susukino Festival" takes place annually for three days from the first Thursday to the first Saturday of August. Traditional events such as the beautiful and glamorous Oiran parade, powerful Mikoshi (portable shrine) and Taiko drum performances, as well as YOSAKOI Soran dances, live music shows, and various performances, are featured. During the festival the streets become pedestrian-only, and around 100 food stalls offering yakitori, oden, and other delicacies operate every night. Additionally, from the first Sunday to the second Sunday of February, "SUSUKINO ICE WORLD" is held as part of the Sapporo Snow Festival's Susukino venue, attracting many tourists from around the world. The main street, Ekimae-dori, is adorned with about 60 ice sculptures and a competition is held. The members of the Japan Ice Sculpting Association, mainly composed of chefs working in hotel restaurants, create the highly polished and brilliant ice sculptures.

Enjoy delicious food and drinks, thrilling live shows, unforgettable encounters, and make the most of Susukino, the adult playground.
